NA Masters: Envy wins over Gen.G and Babybay continues to impress
Day one of the NA Masters saw a tight matchup between Envy and Gen.G, followed by an absolute blowout by FaZe
The NA Masters kicked off with Envy and FaZe knocking their respective opponents into the lower bracket. Now set to meet on March 15th, the new Sentinels lineup and former First Strike champions, 100 Thieves, will get their chance to shine tomorrow.
The first series of the day saw the Challengers 2 Champions, Envy, carry the momentum that earned them top seeding in Masters. Envy’s signature breakneck pace facilitated by their top two fraggers, Victor “food” Wong and Austin “crashies” Roberts, led them to a convincing 13-6 win on Gen.G’s best map, Haven. Icebox went the way of Gen.G however, Kenneth “koosta” Suen preventing Envy from getting off the ground by dealing 159 ADR and equalizing the series with a 5-13 win.
The game three decider played on Bind saw a back-and-forth game, neither team gaining more than a three-round advantage on the other. Ending 6-6 after the first half, Jake “kaboose” McDonald finally edged out an advantage for Envy that they refused to let go. Crashies was by far the MVP of the series though, as his consistent Sova pick not only found 51 frags across the series but also provided Envy with a consistent stream of vital information.
Meeting the team who previously upset them, FaZe entered the second match of the day with something to prove even after winning Challengers 3. FaZe’s team synergy has improved immensely since their last clash, only giving a total of 9 rounds across the two-game sweep. While their coordination of ultimate and utility was impressive, Andrej “babybay” Francisty once again stole the show.
With 41 kills on his signature Jett pick, Babybay continued showing success with his aggressive, in-your-face playstyle that rendered Xset helpless. Also posting a 202 ADR and ACS of 310, Babybay cemented himself as the player to watch in NA Masters.
