NA Masters: FaZe complete their short lower bracket run to rematch Sentinels in the grand finals

After defeating Envy, Gen.G fell to FaZe to secure a rematch grand final between FaZe and Sentinels.

Gen.G and Envy met in the first series of the day to decide who would meet FaZe in the lower bracket finals. These two teams have consistently performed well across the tournament with two wildly different styles though Gen.G’s teamplay ultimately won out over Envy’s duelist centric style 2-1.

Envy came out of the gate swinging on Gen.G’s map pick of Ascent, defender side being one of their stronger suites heralding a 58% winrate they continue this by posting a 10-2 start. Though performing marginally better in the second half, Gen.G fell given their small margin for error. Envy’s premier duelist, Victor “food” Wong, had another topfrag performance as he posted 233 ADR and held a 100% ESR.

Gen.G responded by taking the following two maps. Leaving Haven’s attacker side with an even 6-6, Gen.G played showed incredible post-plant play by winning 6 straight rounds on defender side with 5 being defusal rounds. Carrying this momentum into Bind, Gen.G saw their best attacker side of the series, Anthony “gMd” Guimond finding 13 frags that propelled them to a 9-3 start. Slightly stagnating on defender side, Gen.G were still able to close out the game 13-8.

Unable to celebrate for too long, Gen.G’s series against FaZe proved to be a short endeavor. Losing a blowout series to Sentinels, FaZe needed to have a strong performance before meeting Sentinels for a second time. FaZe delivered just this, Andrej “babybay” Francisty rekindling his aggressive Jett performance and by ending with 40 total frags, 190 ADR, and a 83% ESR between their two games.

Now locked into their rematch with Sentinels, hopefully this convincing series will give FaZe the confidence to make the grand finals a more competitive match-up.
