NA Masters: Immortals and Xset among the first teams eliminated

Day 3 of the NA Masters saw the lower bracket compete to avoid being the first eliminations of the tournament.

Gen.G ended Xset’s Cinderella story, taking the game 2-0 and moving on to the lower bracket semis. In game on Gen.G’s Ascent pick, Jordan “AYRIN” He facilitated Xset’s 7-5 start. Appearing as though they were posed to make another upset, Shawn “Shawn” O’Riley stopped Xset’s momentum on defender side, finishing with a 309 ACS and 1.1 KPR. Only allowing Xset to take a single round as attackers, Gen.G wrapped up the map 13-8.

Xset’s Haven pick was far closer, though this time Gen.G saw the hot start. Danny “huynh” Huynh remained on his ever-steady Jett pick, totaling 4 multi-kills and leading his team 9-3 on attacker side.

After the switch, Brendan “BcJ” Jensen did his part to keep the game competitive carrying his team in terms of frags, most notably getting a quadra kill in round 16.  Xset threatened to close the gap, keeping Gen.G to match point for 4 rounds until Shawn closed out a flawless round 24.

Another close series, but this time going the three map distance, Luminosity Gaming knocked out Immortals. Taking LG’s first map pick of Split, Andrew “ShoT_UP” Orlowski put on a clinic with Reina, dealing 230 ADR with 34 kills. Barely edging out a 13-11 win, the Immortal’s duelist made it look like this would be a similar two game sweep. Immortals Haven pick ended with an even 6-6, Diondre “YaBoiDre” Bond broke the game open with 8 kills across LG’s 4 round run at the start of the second half. Keeping this hard earned lead, Brenden “stellar” McGrath closed out LG’s first win with an ace.

The final map, Bind, saw a similar trend as the last game. While both teams traded rounds, this time Stellar swung the map in LG’s favor, ending with 23 kills and a 75% ESR. Immortals’ primary fraggers, ShoT_UP and NaturE, lost momentum going into the final map after having a great first two maps, but this inability to keep pace ultimately lost them the chance to win the VCT’s first NA Masters.
