NA Masters: Sentinels advance to the grand finals, 100 Thieves and Luminosity get eliminated

The NA Masters returned with three straight 2-0 sweeps that set the stage for the lower bracket finals.

100 Thieves fell to Gen.G in the first series of the day. After a dominant attacker side Gen.G led the map 9-3 and though 100 Thieves put up a fight as the attackers themselves, Gen.G found the remaining 4 rounds they needed. A tight contest on Icebox followed as 100 Thieves found their only leading half of the series. Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk led the Thieves’ efforts as he found 26 total frags with 202 ADR, though ultimately his teammates Joshua “steel” Nissan and Spencer “Hiko” Martin had some of their worst stat lines of the tournament. Gen.G found success in their attacker side and ended the map 11-13.

Gen.G’s Anthony “gMd” Guimond led his team to the lower bracket semi-finals tomorrow as he earned 40 kills and 0.93 KPR in just two games. 100 Thieves were consequently knocked out of the tournament. Once again showing a one-dimensional style, 100 Thieves kept the exact same composition across both maps. It is clear that 100 Thieves are in dire need of a stylistic change.

Envy similarly ended Luminosity Gamings’ run in the NA Masters in a 2-0 fashion. Envy held a healthy lead over their opponents and ended LG’s map pick, Haven, 13-8. LG initially found revenge by leading Ascent 8-4 by the end of the first half, however Victor “food” Wong led Envy to an 8 round winning streak that more than equalized the map. As Envy’s consummate carry duelist, Food opened most of Envy’s opportunities on his Pheonix by finding 7 first bloods and holding a 64% ESR.

Envy continue their lower bracket run by meeting Gen.G tomorrow for the potential of fighting for the finals spot.

In the final match of the day, Sentinels met FaZe for yet another quick 2-0. Jared “zombs” Gitlin led off Sentinel’s 8 round winning streak by finding consecutive multi-kills. FaZe stuck with unsuccessful ‘rush A’ strategy until they managed to find their first round off an econ buy, though still ultimately lost massively on the attacker side of their own map pick. Tyson “TenZ” Ngo once again performed well on his Reina pick, aggressively peaking and totaling 21 frags with a 337 ACS by the end of the map.

FaZe had a much better start to Haven that was more reflective of their improved team play and individual skill, keeping the game even until round 7. Sentinel’s other duelist, Hunter “SicK” Mims carried Sentinels to their 8-13 victory however as he found 22 kills, 1.05 KPR, and 146 ADR. Firmly winning both maps, Sentinel’s continued to look like the tournament favorites.

FaZe now waits their next opponents in the lower bracket, set to take on the winner between Gen.G and Envy’s game with hopes to meet Sentinels once again in the grand finals.
