Ever since the release of Call of Duty Vanguard, the latest iteration of the franchise has been met with heavy criticism. Pros and team owners alike did not relent in expressing their frustration over the long competitive break. Vanguard released in early November, though competition is set to resume in February.
100 Thieves owner and former CoD pro, Nadeshot, was among the first to question Activision’s stewardship over the esports scene. Nadeshot brought up that the esport went from extremely active to almost non-existent for the last several months. The team owner stated that Activision has to ‘wake up.’
Call of Duty arguably has the most entertaining, outspoken & personable players out of any esports community. Storylines and rivalries that literally span across a DECADE. Vanguard releases and the league says, "you're not allowed to compete on stream together until February" 😂
Both H3CZ and Nadeshot were also critical over the CDL’s new ruling that players cannot compete on stream until February third. Nadeshot argued that CoD esports “has the most entertaining, outspoken & personable players out of any esports community. Storylines and rivalries that literally span across a DECADE” and that the new ruling was incredibly unfair and detrimental to the CDL.
I went to our board of directors pleading for us to get back into competitive Call of Duty. I said let's spend the money, let's give our community what they're asking for, just trust me and I'll make sure LA Thieves is a success. Two years later, I guess I'm the fool.
The former pro even went on to express his regret entering the league, considering he had to plead the 100 Thieves board to re-enter the scene. OpTic H3CZ has continuously been critical of Activision’s handling over CoD’s esports scene, citing that CoD is one of the few esports where it is ‘up to the players’ to maintain the health and growth of the esports.
Though both esports personalities have contributed a great deal to the CDL, it seems that the tide of public opinion has turned against Activision and its lucrative FPS property.
