NiP reaches Flashpoint 3 grand final, gets revenge against G2
Ninjas in Pyjamas have secured a Flashpoint 3 finals appearance after beating G2 Esports 2-1 in the lower bracket final.
The event couldn’t have started more controversial for the Ninjas, with the opening round loss against Anonymo, the Twitter headlines, and the eventual decision to replay the third map of the series. NiP managed to win the replay and sent the Polish Anonymo to the lower brackets.
The Swedish organization, playing with their new star player Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz playing his first tournament, eventually got sent down to the lower bracket by G2, after they let G2 come back from being 0-1 down in their upper bracket matchup.
After that loss NiP managed to overcome both BIG and Heroic in a similar fashion, winning both series 2-1 after dropping the first map.
After a fantastic 3rd map, @NIPCS get the win vs @G2esports 2-1! NIP will face Mousesports in the Grand Final of Flashpoint 3.
G2 put on some of the best games of the tournament, finishing 3rd and earning 1,400 RMR points.
Mirage was the first map served to the fans, a map where G2 has gotten some solid results as of late, including the earlier series against the Ninjas. This time wasn’t any different and NiP dropped their own map pick 16-12 against their opponents.
This map loss marked the third time in a row Ninjas in Pyjamas trailed their opponents 0-1 going into map two. Once again it marked the start of a comeback, as NiP quickly responded by taking G2’s map pick Inferno, with three NiP players going over 20 kills on the map.
Dust 2 is where the Ninjas started off the strongest and barely held off a ferocious G2 comeback after leading 14-7 at one point. It came down to the 30th round before the Ninjas managed to slow down the G2 train, with a little bit of luck on their side.
