With Blastoise a new defender joins the battlefield. The release of him was highly anticipated, since he already showed himself in the initial trailer of Pokémon UNITE. He was also already playable in the beta, but new players never had a chance to play him.
Blastoise has kind of the same playstyle as Crustle, with some decent defending utility, as he can displace enemies and brings some good defensive stats. A big difference with Crustle is that Blastoise can stay a little farther away and do damage with his ranges attacks. Next to that, Blastoise can be a tank and soak up damage from the enemy. All of his moves fit in a supportive role perfectly.
Best held items for Blastoise
Ofcourse there are always multiple ways to build in Pokémon UNITE, but some items just suit Blastoise better than others. Since he will be playing a beefy supportive role in the team, we advise you to take Buddy Barrier, which is very handy in teamfights since you provide a nearby ally and yourself a shield when you use a Unite Move. The item also gives Blastoise his base HP a boost, which is always handy when you need to tank for your team.
If you would ask us, Score Shield is a must for playing Blastoise. You get a shield while you’re trying to score and since you are a slower Pokémon you could really use that. The shield is bases on the max HP, which also gets boosted by this item after already getting boosted by Buddy Barrier. The perfect combo.
As a third item you can pick from multiple options. We think it’s best for you to try some stuff out and see what works best for you. Energy Amplifier works for lowering cooldowns on Special Moves, where Shell Bell provides you some more healing, which is also nice. It’s hard to point out one perfect third item, so it’s up to you how you like to play.
As a Battle Item it’s textbook procedure to go for Eject Button. It’s useful in so many situation, you can’t go without it. Using this item at the right moment can be the difference between winning and losing.
Blastoise moves
Level 1 – Water Gun or Skull Bash: It’s hard to give advice on this one, since both moves are pretty good at the start of the game. If you prefer having some range in lane, we would ofcourse suggest you to pick Water Gun, where Skull Bash force you to get up close.
Level 5 – Hydro Pump or Water Sprout: They look very similar, but have one important difference. Hydro Pump is more focused, deals burst damage and knocks back targets, where Water Sprout deals more damage in multiple hits.
Level 7 – Surf or Rapid Spin: It’s getting repetitive, but this choice is also very personal and situational. Where Surf gives you movement while dealing damage, Rapid Spin does more damage over multiple hits and is also a very good choice in the movement-department. It secondly changes the way Hydro Pump and Water Sprout work.
Levcel 9 – Hydro Typhoon: Spinning around while spouting water and dealing damage. Still not convinced? You also displace enemies and gives you a shield. The perfect teamfight tool.
