Project M is a new Chinese VALORANT rip-off (and Riot Games won’t be happy)

NetEase, one of the biggest Chinese video game companies, released a trailer for their upcoming game. The similarities with VALORANT are striking, to say the least.

The trailer showcases some of the gameplay the game will feature and it has to be said that it’s extremely similar to VALORANT. The game features five versus five matches which sees agents with special abilities fight it out with guns. That sounds vague enough to be any other shooter, but once you see the visual similarities between the characters in Project M and VALORANT, it becomes a little more troubling.

Another thing people have rightfully pointed out is the visual style of the game. With the clear, open battlefields and extremely similar HUD, the game just blatantly copied from VALORANT. Even the music and sound design is extremely similar to Riot Games’ FPS, to the point that sometimes it’s even hard to distinguish between the two.

Project M is a mobile game which is free-to-play and NetEase is looking to start a closed beta for the game. As VALORANT doesn’t have a mobile version yet, it might look to capitalize on that market. The only problem might stem from the fact the game is a bit too similar to VALORANT and chances are Riot Games won’t stand idly by.
