Reigning LEC Champion MAD Lions start off 2022 with a win

The 2022 LEC Spring Split began as all ten teams had their first game of the regular split. The reigning LEC Champions from 2021, MAD Lions, particularly had an impressive start to the season as the team took down Team Vitality easily. Integrating two new members, MAD Lions have not lost its hold over the league despite its roster moves.

Can MAD Lions repeat another championships?

In their first game of the season, MAD Lions played heavily around its middle lane and jungler duo. Reeker had a commanding game on Yasuo in his LEC debut, scoring first blood and playing in sync with Elyoya’s Diana pick. Actively returning to the middle lane to build a massive lead, Reeker ended with a 4/1/8 scoreline. The returning Rookie of the Split Elyoya was undoubtedly the MVP of the game, facilitating most of MAD Lion’s winning lanes and fights, ending 8/1/10 scoreline.

MAD Lions, despite their winning ways, were not favored to win the LEC in light of the team’s offseason moves. Now it seems that Reeker and Unforgiven were not the weak links they were expected to be. While only the first game of the year, MAD Lions certainly have found an excellent start.

Will Vitality rebound?

This initial loss was especially painful for the Team Vitality squad. With a newly renovated roster, Vitality entered the LEC firmly as the region’s ‘super team.’ Perkz and Alphari’s return to Europe was tarnished as both laners fell flat in their debut. While the bottom lane showed some signs of life, it is clear the Vitality have some strides to make before the squad can live up to its true potential.
