Riot Games accused of misleading their employees about being able to speak out
The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, who are also the ones who filed the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, has released a statement where they say Riot Games has to inform their employees of their rights to speak out to the DFEH or other government bodies, something they have neglected to do for the past two months according to them.
California’s Department of Fair Employment & Housing (the department suing Activision) is putting pressure on Riot Games to inform its employees that they can speak to the DFEH about misconduct. Says Riot’s been stalling pic.twitter.com/OAvvGlVtnE
Basically, Riot Games was informed they had to send out a notice to employees on June 4 where they had to advise their employees to give out all information needed and that they had permission to speak freely without fear of retaliation. The DFEH also goes on to say that they were alarmed by the language Riot Games used in settlements, which seemed like they were saying employees could not speak freely.
In a statement to Polygon, Riot Games has now said that they have whistle-blower protection in place and that “Riot has never and will never retaliate against anyone for talking to any government agency”. They also refuted the claims the DFEH have made when it comes to the language used in settlements possibly preventing employees from speaking to the DFEH or other government instances.
