Project L was first announced in 2019 in Riot Games’ ten year showcase. While several other games from the showcase, such as VALORANT and the games produced by Riot Forge, have since been released, Project L has remained as mysterious as ever. Riot Games have celebrated the release and subsequent end of Arcane with an update on the projected fighting game.
Project L is set to be a tag-team fighting game. Players will helm two champions with plenty of League of Legends characters to choose from. While not an exhaustive list of playable champions, Project L’s showcase featured Jinx, Ekko, Darius, and Ahri. The video showed off the unique kits of each champion, flaunting their familiar abilities and play styles.
The developers stated that they intend to make the game ‘easy to learn but hard to master.’ Tom Cannon, one of the leads of the project stated that “Our goal is to build a super high-quality fighting game that the FGC can invest deeply in, playing for years or even decades. That takes time to get right, and we’re not going to rush it.”
While it seems that much of the development is complete, the Project L crew is still filling out the roster of playable characters, stages, a ranked system and more. Though fans may not get their hands on the fighting game anytime in the near future, the developers promise at least two more updates in 2022.
