Riot reveals VCT Masters Berlin format containing group stage and single-elimination bracket
VALORANT’s second international event, Masters Berlin, will see some format changes since the last Masters tournament. The event itself will take place from September 10th and end on the 19th. Sixteen teams will represent their respective regions and organizations, fighting for only the second ever international title in VALORANT’s history. The stakes are high in Berlin, as the winner will automatically slot in to VCT Champions and considerably more VCT points are up for grabs.

Many were critical of Masters Reykjavik for its immediate tournament format, as some initial match-ups were randomized. Masters Berlin is seemingly addressing these concerns. The event will start with a bracket-style group stage with a double-elimination twist. In total there will be four groups. So far, not all of the advancing teams have been revealed. This group stage will kick off the and run from the 10th to the 17th.
The group stage also promises to distribute teams across the four groups so we see less same-region match-ups. Only two teams will advance from this initial stage and enter the single-elimination knockout stage. This portion of the tournament will take place from the 18th to the 19th.
There has been some discussion over the decision to keep the knockouts bracket single elimination rather than double-elimination like in Masters Reykjavik. This starting group stage however ensures the same amount of games will be played, though there is little margin for error as the tournament goes on. While the rest of the teams qualify, we still have some time before we see our next VCT Champions qualification.
