French Counter-Strike legend Cédric “RpK” Guipouy has announced his retirement from the game at 32 years old. He will now transition into a streaming career.
Nicknamed “Le Tank”, Guipouy will now embark on a new passion project, starting his own company in the automobile industry.
RpK’s career started all the way back in 2007 when Counter-Strike: Source was still fighting for supremacy with 1.6. He played on numerous top French sides for the next five years and ended up being a part of the famous VeryGames team. A roster that had many epic duels with the NiP lineup during the game’s infancy.
Because of the relatively small scene at the time, RpK put a stop to his gaming career in 2013. He worked as a car mechanic with his father to be able to earn money.
It would take almost two years before he returned to active duty and joined Titan, a team still recovering from the Hovik ‘KQLY’ Tovmassian cheating scandal.
Today marks the end of a long & beautiful career. It started long ago, had ups & downs, but I always loved it. I'm greatful for your support over the years, I won't forget it ❤️
Guipouy already retired once before, so questions on how definitive his goodbye is this time arose.
“I doubt it’s possible that people will see me in esports anytime soon,” he said, before adding: “But as they always say and as the people who know me are aware of, nothing is impossible.”
RpK was moved to the Vitality bench four months ago to make room for new talent. During those months he had ample time to think about his future in CSGO. Ultimately he decided on retiring and pursuing another passion.
