In a decisive grand finals, Sentinels claimed top seeding from the Challenger 2 qualifiers.
A seemingly fated storyline, Cloud9’s recent rise gave TenZ the opportunity to square off against his former team in a best of 5 series. Cloud9 began the match with a shocking Yoru pick for Poiz, one of the best performing duelists of the closed qualifiers. This pick did not live up to expectations for C9 however as SicK and TenZ dominated on the first map pick of Bind. A map that neither team had shown thus far in the tournament, Sentinels ended with a commanding 13-4 win to snap C9’s winstreak.
After taking Cloud9’s map pick, Sentinels showed similar dominance on Haven, one of their strongest attack side maps with a 59.4% winrate. On his signature Phoenix, SicK posted 279 ACS and 21 kills in this relatively fast 13-6 victory.
Far from a competitive start, Cloud9 were able to resurge in the first half of Split as an initial seven round win got the upper bracket champs a 8-4 lead. Leaf’s best efforts on the Raze however could not prevent the Sentinel’s equally impressive comeback. Ending with 29 total kills on Sage, SicK largely facilitated the Sentinel’s nine round streak that gave them a firm control over the map. Following these incredible individual performances, Sentinels ended the series 3-0 and topped their lower bracket performance with a first place finish.
Now qualified for Challenger’s Finals, Sentinels will once again be faced with the dilemma regarding TenZ and whether or not he will remain on the roster. On loan from Cloud9 still, Sentinel’s recent success with the ex-CS:GO rising star may play a factor considering his already reportedly high buyout. Either way, Sentinels will be joining Cloud9, NRG, and Andbox in the Challengers Finals.
