A small patch released for Dota 2 sees a small nerf for Bottled Water and Bounty Runes.
With the introduction of Dota 2’s 7.29 patch icefrog introduced a new rune. The so called “Water Rune” gives players a small amount of mana and HP on pickup and refills their bottle. With water runes spawning on both the power rune spots at the two and four minute marks, they provided mid players with an incentive to rush a very quick bottle.
However in combination with the new bounty rune timings at three minutes, mid players quickly figured out that they had more HP and mana than what they knew what to do with. Therefore the first few days of patch, mid lane matchups became very stale very quickly. Instead of the high octane and mechanically demanding mid lanes of the past, players simply used AOE nukes to spam out the waves and retreat back into their jungle.
To remedy this problem icefrog made some quick alterations to the patch today. By making it so that bounty runes and water runes only fill up to two charges of the bottle, the amount of regen gained has been cut in two thirds. Still allowing players to have a decent amount of regen to play around with. But also making it so that forcing good trades with your opponent is actually useful again.
