It has been five weeks of non-stop action in the european DPC, and with only one week and three more series to go, there are still many questions to be answered.
How the mighty have fallen
For the past year Team Secret seemed to be an unstoppable force that would win pretty much any tournament. Taking this into account, their good season one and Major performances seemed to make total sense. However, as The International seems to be getting ever closer, Team Secret seems to have already found their TI form. The team known for bombing out during The International while dominating the rest of the season seems to be unable to find their footing this time. With a 3-3 scoreline Team Secret is currently sitting in the bottom half of the EU DPC standings, with only one series to go up against the surprisingly strong Brame.
That’s it! Feels good to win again! Good game @TeamLiquid #SecretDota pic.twitter.com/fvziMj6f00

While Team Secret is pretty much guaranteed a TI invite due to all the DPC points they collected in last season and the major, they are still somehow in danger of relegating to the lower division at the same time. If they would lose their match against Brame while Tundra Esports wins their match against Team Nigma, it would result in Team Secret and Tundra Esports having to play tiebreakers to keep their spot in the upper division.
The big picture
Look past Team Secret however, we can see that actually, everything is still to play for. With only three series to go, there are only eight possible ways this second EUW DPC season can end. The reason for this is simply math. These eight outcomes however, range from OG fighting in a four way tiebreaker with Brame, Team Liquid and Team Nigma. And like you might have noticed in my quick comparison there, OG is one of the most uncertain teams right now if it comes to placements.

OG is a team right now that simultaneously looks like the best team in the world and the worst team in the world. This has become so apparent, that scientists have started to use the term Schrödingers OG instead of Schrödingers cat. For at the one moment you see Ana diving the fountain unopposed with his overfarmed Phantom Lancer, to subsequently see Topson’s Hoodwink get crushed by a Tiny. And with Team Liquid known for pulling some cheesy stunts themselves, their series with OG might become even more confusing than quantum mechanics.
Spartan Resilience
One of the lesser known teams that got itself bound up in this whole mess of a european DPC is Brame. This team built by past Ad Finem players SkyLark and SsaSpartan had to come from far. In the first season they had to battle through the lower division, barely making into the top three, to somehow be able to clutch it during tiebreakers and getting themselves into the upper division. Once they arrived however, they seemed way stronger that many people had anticipated.
Alliance now find themselves in a spot to possibly even make it to Kyiv for the Animajor. In essence it’s all in their own hands from here. Because if they simply win all of their next series from here on out, they will be guaranteed a spot at the major. And while there won’t be any audience in Kyiv, I’m sure there will be some Ahoo’s coming out from the crew if the Greeks perform as well as they can.
Eastern Disappointment
Whereas western europe looks to be strong and close, over in the east things look weak and settled. Virtus Pro still reigns supreme, with Team Spirit close behind them. Going further down the list however is not recommended. As the rest teams seem to be severely lacking in the necessary discipline to make it to the top, let alone compete with Virtus Pro and Team Spirit.
The second #DPC Major tournament of the 2021 season will be hosted by @WePlay_Esports and will be held in Kyiv. Welcome! 🙌

Especially Navi lost some fans with their recent performance. Recently losing a series up against Team Unique it was Brian “BSJ” Canavan who tore the team apart while criticizing their item choices. Saying that buying an armlet on Enchantress made it so that he was very happy that Navi ended up defeated. A team that ever since they swapped out General for Ramzes, looks incredibly lost. So lost, that it is no surprise that we will not see them attend the major. Leaving Team Spirit and Virtus Pro as eastern europe’s only hope.
