The North American Last Chance Qualifier resumes after LAN cancellation
The Last Chance Qualifiers are the final opportunity VALORANT unqualified teams will get at making VCT Champions. The climatic end to the competitive season still has one open slot from every region or regional grouping. While EMEA and SEA have finished theirs, North America has seen complications in their LCQ.
Intended to be VALORANT’s first regional LAN, COVID scares and massive ping issues promised competitive integrity. After a long hiatus, the competition finally returned though almost immediately faced another hurdle in form of a thunderstorm that knocked out broadcast’s power. Still, three games were played that furthered the long awaited NA LCQ.
Is it finally Cloud9’s time to shine?
Cloud9 have been one of the longest standing teams in VALORANT. Initially signing TenZ, the team competed at the top of NA for the first months of the esports scene. After dropping TenZ, C9 struggled though waned in and out of relevancy. Narrowly missing Masters Berlin, it feels like C9 is finally resurging.
Their game against Version1, former Masters Reykjavik representative, was a clean 2-0 stomp for C9. The boys in blue had a killer performance across both Breeze (13-5) and Icebox (13-9). Xeppa even thrived on Kay/O, a pick that has waned in competitive success, though C9 has seemingly found a way into integrate it into their composition.
What awaits in the lower bracket?
Version1’s loss sent them to the lower bracket against FaZe Clan. Though both have shown excellent form in the past, the long break seems to have negatively impacted their play. Both teams have struggled to maintain any amount of consistency throughout a majority of their time in VALORANT, though must quickly adapt now that they face the fires of elimination.
