Toronto Ultra win it all in the Stage II Major, upsetting Atlanta FaZe

After completing an impressive lower bracket run, Toronto Ultra capped off performance by usurping FaZe.

After once again winning the battle for the North against Minnesota Rokkr, Toronto Ultra faced off against the final boss, Atlanta FaZe. Fresh off a win from Dallas Empire, many predicted this rematch would go a similar way.

Certainly embracing this narrative, FaZe got off to a great start by winning a narrow first map on Garrison 250-198. All too reminiscent of their massive throw in their previous series, the Ultra came within reaching distance of FaZe’s lead but never were able to close the gap.

Toronto’s first win of the series came on SnD on Miami, the first of their two wins over FaZe on the game mode. Keeping Toronto on match point, FaZe ultimately fell 3-5 and retained their 0% SnD winrate this Major. Cammy and Insight were absolutely integral in gaining momentum for Toronto, something they carried over into the following map.

After equalizing the series, Toronto gained their first lead though winning by a much slimmer margin. Finishing 3-2 on Control, this time Bance and Cleanx led the charge for Ultra, Cleanx finishing with 31 total kills.

Aware that Toronto were a win away from match point, Atlanta FaZe showed signs of life once more on Hardpoint, certainly proving to be their best game mode in the playoffs. Former MVP of last stage, Simp’s incredible 26 kill game proved just how contingent FaZe is on the success of their hard carries.

FaZe took this a step further by taking SnD, marking their only win on the game mode and in a tight contest as they defeated Ultra on Moscow 5-6. Arcitys and Abezy pulling their team ahead in this contest.

Though another win that set the overall record in their favor, this would be FaZe’s final map win of the series. Toronto Ultra swept the following two maps, on both Control and SnD, showing some of the best consecutive performances from the Toronto squad all season long.

After finally defeating FaZe on Hardpoint (250-156), Toronto Ultra made history by knocking down the top dogs in the CDL. Culminating in a Major win, Toronto Ultra proved that they are more than capable of keeping up with the best teams.
