Twitch might be adding new features to moderate chat soon
After Twitch got called out for not effectively moderating their platform and not giving their users enough resources to combat toxic behavior themselves, it seems they’re now trying to improve those on their website. As there has been a lot of focus and outrage over so-called ‘hate raids’ on Twitch, it seems like the streaming platform wants to do something about anonymity and looks to add more verification options.
Oh! Seems @DraconTV shared a screenshot of this earlier today, albeit in German! Clearly had a better source on this one than I! pic.twitter.com/adunxQBjcy
According to journalist Zach Bussey, who shared his findings on Twitter, Twitch will be adding email and phone verification to accounts if they want to chat on the platform (with certain exceptions. This means that accounts will need to have an email and phone number linked to verify their account. Streamers will be able to enable this feature and tweak it, changing if people who don’t have a phone number or email can actually partake in the chat.
While many appreciate the effort from Twitch to crack down on these issues, some people have remarked that Twitch currently allows multiple Twitch accounts to be created on a single email address, which in turn can completely bypass these filters. They’ll still have some tweaking to do if they’re actually going to implement these changes, but all in all it’s a good start.
