Twitch might be introducing paid ‘stream boosts’ and people are not happy about it

Recently a possible new feature for Twitch leaked which sees an option to ‘boost a stream’. This feature would allow viewers to boost a channel for a certain amount of money, making it more visible. A lot of streamers and personalities within the Twitch scene have already spoken out about it, calling it a ‘horrible idea’, especially considering it might make it even harder for smaller streamers to get noticed.

Harris Heller of StreamBeats took to Twitter to talk about why the idea isn’t good and why it will make discoverability on the platform even worse. “Paid boosting is not a problem in itself. The difference is that other platforms already have organic discoverability. We’ve been begging Twitch for years to implement some form of discoverability… .” Heller also talks about how Twitch is quick to add features that make them money, but not ones that aid the community as a whole.

In the end all the big streamers would end up being boosted, as their big fan bases can offer up the biggest amounts of cash. If Twitch does implement the feature, many creators won’t be happy with it at all and it’d be another page to add to the list of Twitch’s toneless moves.
