Valkyrae shares the reason behind the RFLCT shutdown
On October 19th, popular streamer and content creator Valkyrae announced her skincare line RFLCT. Meant to protect gamers against blue light damage, the short lived brand came under immense scrutiny over its faulty research. Only one week after launch, RFLCT products were pulled from in-person stores and the website was taken down.
In her multiple streams addressing the controversy, Valkyrae expressed regret over taking the project after the company refused to make its research public. On December 5th, Valkyrae once again brought up the now dead skincare line, elaborating on the reasons why it ultimately collapsed.
Several DMs were leaked throughout the course of the controversy. Chief among these was a conversation between Ludwig and 100 Thieves Co-Owner Valkyrae. During this conversation, Valkyrae expressed that she no longer wished to be a part of the project and only days after, RFLCT dissolved.
When prompted by Ludwig for an update once again, Valkyrae stated “They can still sue me at any time so I have to be careful. I will say that because of that leak, that’s why they pulled out of 400 stores. They were going to proceed regardless, but because of that leak, everything was removed. I think it was a blessing in disguise, honestly.”
Seemingly viewing the silver lining from the situation, Valkyrae has since expressed that she has put the whole ordeal behind her. Though living in the shadow of potential legal ramifications, Valkyrae has continued on with her normal content, collaboration, and streaming schedule.
