This past year in VALORANT saw a massive expansion of the Agents lineup. Yoru, KAY/O, Astra, and Chamber were all added to the game with vastly different kits and playstyles. Though some more prevalent than others, a majority of these new Agents have had some sort of impact on the ranked and competitive scenes. VALORANT plans to continually add more Agents into the game moving into the new year, starting a new Filipino Agent in 2022.
In a recent blog post, the VALORANT Dev team gave an update about this mysterious new Agent. Riot has heavily alluded that this Agent will be from the Philippines. In Tagalog, the developers open with “Mga kaibigan ko,” meaning ‘my friends’ and concludes with “Maraming salamat!”, meaning ‘thanks a lot!’ This will be VALORANT’s first Filipino Agent and comes after Team Secret’s impressive run at VCT Masters.
This new Agent is heavily implied to be a speed-focused duelist. With almost all the pictures accompanying this Agent’s vague appearance being the bottom of a running shoe, we can only speculate that speed and mobility will be key elements of their eventual kit.
A new Agent is not the only thing coming in 2022, as Devs have stated that “Throughout 2022 you should see a bigger focus on Agent balance.” For the first six months specifically the dev team will be focused on ’emergent’ balance issues and claim that they will be significantly faster at addressing balancing issues. With countless criticisms toward the strength and weaknesses of champions throughout 2021, it seems that Riot Games have made it their mission to counter its reputation.
