VALORANT: Riot Games teases even more ranked changes in Act II

Riot Games has been working hard on VALORANT in Act II already, giving us a lot of quality of life updates, fixes and updates to matchmaking. Now they’ve revealed they’re not finished yet as we can expect more changes.

One of the biggest changes coming to VALORANT is actually an AFK penalty. Riot Games plans to do this by making players who AFK lose extra Rank Rating. According to Riot this is only the first step in punishing these kinds of players and they’ll have more updates in store to prevent it from happening in the future and lowering the odds of it happening, or at least punishing AFKers when it occurs.

Riot is also bringing in a new system to test whether you’re in the right rank, which they say is a significant improvement over their old system of measuring nine games. “We’re more confident in the new system: Once you’ve achieved a rank, you’ve been tested enough and should be rewarded the instant you reach that rank. This means your Act rank will be decided by the highest triangle rank in your Act Rank Badge, instead of your top nine wins.” Players will still have to earn nine wins to fill the Act Rank Badge however.

To close out their development blog, Riot also looked ahead to the future of Act II. They’ll be trying to make act-to-act resets a little less punishing, making it easier to retain rank, while also protecting the prestige of the Radiant rank. They’ll also make it so players can hide their rank before and during games to relieve pressure and will be loosening up restrictions on grouping with your friends in lower ranked matches.
