Virtus.pro and G2 both get knocked out of EPL as Furia and Complexity advance to quarter-finals

Round 2 ended dramatically as both Virtus.pro and G2 were relatively upset by their opponents.

The final 6 teams in the EPL have been decided after the two series today, and have set one half of the quarter-finals.

Furia managed to avenge Team Liquid by sweeping G2 2-0 and advanced to face either Gambit or Astralis. Furia had a hot start to the series, as on T-side in Vertigo, Furia found an 11-4 start purely out fragging their opponents as 81% of rounds ended in eliminations. G2 could not make up this massive deficit as they only took one round on T-side, ending the game 16-5 in favor of Furia. Yuri “yuurih” Santos played a large role in this 1-0 start as he found 23 total kills, 123 ADR, and an outstanding 1.84 overall rating.

Map two, Mirage, was significantly more competitive though ultimately went the same way for Furia. G2 found their only winning half of the series, confidently taking T-side 9-6. Andrei “arT” Piovezan took the reins of the game, averaging 102 ADR by the end of their 16-10 victory. Furia have performed seemingly above expectations this tournament, now advancing to face one of the group winners in what is seemingly one of their deepest tournament runs yet.

Complexity also continued their tournament run, defeating the CIS roster Virtus.pro 2-1. Virtus.pro commandingly took game one, Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis and Dzhami “Jame” Ali once again leading the charge. With a 16-9 victory on Mirage, VP took an early lead in the series.

The next two maps followed with incredibly close finishes. Complexity only took 3 rounds in the first half of Inferno, however improved across the board on T-side, showing incredible site control as 70% of rounds ended after bomb plants. Complexity equalized the series after their 13-16 win. Though suffering an initial 0-4 round loss streak, Complexity took a healthy lead that they managed to carry with them to the finish line. Valetin “poizon” Vasilev’s particularly impressive play in recent days has facilitated their recent success.

This 2-1 victory secured Complexity a place in the quarter finals to face either NIP or Heroic.
