Out of all the utility available to use in Call of Duty Warzone, grenades are easily among the most effective. Both lethal and non-lethal grenades can be the decider in gunfights and even win skirmishes before they truly begin. Knowing what grenades to take and when to use them are two entirely separate skills in their own rights.
Cook timers, target selection, and bouncing are all imperative to landing an effective grenade. More versatile than they may appear at the surface, the nuances of this utility is often the difference between a veteran and a rookie. Here are our tips on how to master grenades.
Grenades as entry tools – When to use them
Grenades are perhaps one of the best entry tools in Warzone. If you have the drop on your opponents, lethal and non-lethal projectiles alike can shock your targets. Lethal grenades can obviously chunk out opponent’s health to soften them up before you jump in to finish your enemies off. Similarly, flashes can disorient your opponents and put them in a vulnerable spot for you to capitalize on.
Grenades have a fairly small blast radius, which is important to keep in mind when tossing one out. Consequently, grenades are far more effective in buildings that have narrow corridors or small rooms. To achieve the maximum effect, you should try to catch enemies when grouped together.
Detonation timers and movement mechanics
One feature of grenades that you should plan on utilize is the ability to ‘cook’ your projectile. This essentially shortens the fuse on the grenade, and creates a more immediate explosion when you eventually toss it out. The less you cook a grenade, the more time your enemies have to move out of the way.
Unless you’re using a syntax grenade, you also have the ability to bounce your grenades off of surfaces. This means that if you have a solid approximation of your enemy’s location, you could ricochet grenades to hit your opponents without have to face them or their gunfire. Added to this, you can still perform tasks such as open door while cooking grenades. This only adds to the projectiles’ effectiveness as an entry fragging tool.
Types of grenades
From throwing knives to frag grenades, there are plenty of projectiles in Warzone. Frag grenades and syntax are certainly the top two lethal grenades. Both options are fully capable of zoning out opponents and dealing significant damage that can be used in a variety of situations. Syntax grenades have the ability to stick to enemies and vehicles, so if you’re less focused on doing area of effect damage and more on precision, then this is for you.
Molotovs are also an effective zoning tool but do significantly less damage. In terms of non-lethals, stuns and flashes are the way to go. Smokes can buy space, but do not have the ability to disorient opponents. Flashes slightly limit an enemy’s movement more, making them somewhat more favorable. No matter your selection, utilize these tips will drastically increase the effectiveness of your utility.
