What we know about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet so far
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were shown during the livestream featured on Pokémon Day, through a cinematic trailer combined with some visuals from the games. Below we’ll run you through what we already know about the game and things we’ve seen during the trailer.
Like usual, the new region will feature three starters, again being a Fire-type, Water-Type and Grass-Type. The three Pokémon will be called Fuecoco (The Fire Croc Pokémon), Quaxly (The Tiny Duck Pokémon) and Sprigatito (The Grass Cat Pokémon).
Open World returns, what about battles?
Through the trailer it seems that Pokémon is sticking to the Open World design that it already experimented with in Pokémon Sword and Shield through the Wild Area and further explored in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. According to the press release that accompanied the new announcement, all the towns in the game will blend in seamlessly with the wilderness surrounding it.
Welcome to the open world of Pokémon.
Embark on an open-world adventure in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, arriving on Nintendo Switch in late 2022.
Also, while everything does point towards the style used in Legends: Arceus, it’s currently unclear if the battle system in this mainline game will also be completely overhauled or will follow the more traditional path.
When will it release?
There’s no exact date for the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as of yet, but Game Freak and Nintendo have said it’ll arrive in Late 2022. Looking back at previous releases of the Pokémon games, it’s reasonable to assume it’ll arrive somewhere in November 2022.
