What we’ve learned from the Call of Duty Vanguard reveal
Call of Duty Vanguard is rapidly approaching, as the full release of the latest CoD installment is slated for November 5th. With this date just over the horizon, Activision and Sledgehammer have slowly been releasing more information regarding the title’s multiplayer and upcoming beta. The recent multiplayer trailer and worldwide reveal featured a 28-minute long information release. Here are some of the most important details we know about Call of Duty Vanguard.
When can we expect the open beta?
Call of Duty Vanguard will have a two week open beta for those who pre-order the game. The two weeks will see a slow roll out of the game’s content. Week one will feature three new maps: Hotel Royal, Red Star, and Gavutu with all the normal game modes seasoned CoD players should be accustom to. Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and a new mode called Patrol will all be available for play come week one. This first week will start on Friday, September 10th and go until the 13th.
Weekend two will open up Thursday, September 16th and end on the 18th and introduce cross play into the beta. More information is set to come out about this second half next week. If players reach level 20 before the end of the beta, they will able to receive a weapon blueprint for both Vanguard and Warzone.
Ways to play – More choices than ever
Players will have more choice than ever in terms of the types of lobbies they want to play in. Vanguard divides their modes into three different ‘Combat Pacings’ in tactical, assault, and blitz. Tactical offers players a familiar 6v6 CoD experience. Assault will feature slightly larger, more hectic lobbies with 20 to 28 players per lobby. Blitz will showcase a massive 28 to 48 player lobby, featuring all of the new maps and modes in their most chaotic form.
One feature Vanguard touts quite a bit are the ‘reactive’ environments featured in their maps. The game will feature some fan favorites from Call of Duty World at War, though with destructible twists. Maps will gradually become more run-down and war torn as a match progresses. This includes a torn down buildings, ‘persistent’ graphical advances, and a ‘combat fog’ dust storm that slowly takes over the map.
Operator levels
Operators in Vanguard will be inspired by real life World War II soldiers across various countries. Operator XP will be separate from regular, weapons, battle pass, and Clan XP. Players will be able to unlock cosmetic items, skins, and calling cards applicable in-game that will give you slight edges in leveling up. There will be six operators open to play in the beta, including Daniel Take Yatsu, Roland Zelmet, Lucas Riggs, Wade Jackson, and Arthur Kingsley, and Polina Petrov. Players can expect more upon the game’s full release and more rewards after the beta has ended.
