Will Alliance prove themselves in Kyiv & has Quincy Crew been unleashed?

It’s only a few days from now that the Animajor in Kyiv will kick off. This gives us a perfect opportunity to take a look back at the strongest teams in the DPC EU and NA.
The kings of the North

It was more than seven years ago when Alliance won the third International. Ever since this magical TI run, the kings of the north have seen difficulty getting back on top. However, with their recent results in the Western European DPC, now might finally be that time. While it is only S4 who was also present during TI3, the team’s new blood seems poised and ready to take their first steps towards another TI win. Something they have every opportunity to prove, during the upcoming major being top team, from the historically strong western european region.

Team Liquid also performed surprisingly well, ending second place in the european DPC, they seem like a strong contender for the title. While losing their offlaner Samuel “Boxi” Svahn could have been a mortal blow, it seems that this giant hole has been filled by the king from mid, Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan. Somebody who’s incredible skill has been a blessing to the team, setting up for a possible top finish in Kyiv.

European Wildcards

Going into the wildcard stage for Western Europe will be Team Nigma and Team Secret. Surprising since Team Secret was on top for so long, but recently seem to have lost form. However, Team Secret is already qualified for TI, making this major less important for them.

Team Nigma needs to pull out all the stops if they want to secure a TI invite this year. Despite this need to perform though, the road ahead looks rough for Team Nigma. As only two teams will escape the wild card stage, and the chinese juggernauts of Vici Gaming and Invictus Gaming seem to be the big favorites in taking these spots. Leaving Team Nigma behind in the dust

The North American Switcheroo

For months now we have clearly seen that there are two North American teams that are simply better than the rest in the region. Last Major it was Evil Geniuses on top with Quincy Crew close behind, while this time around the roles seem to be reversed. Quincy Crew now playing with their full roster instead of with a stand-in are looking to be strong contenders for the coming major title. Evil Geniuses is of course still looking as strong as ever, while they might have lost to Quincy Crew back home, this seems to be more due to their strength, as opposed to EG’s weakness.

Pressure to perform

With the coming major being the last opportunity to secure points towards earning a TI invite, the pressure seems to be on for many teams. Less so for North America as EG is already secure of an invite, and Quincy Crew also being close to sure of an invite. For Team Liquid and Team Nigma however, they need to get to at least a top six placement if they want a shot at securing themselves a place at TI outside of the closed qualifiers. A feat that would require some incredibly good play, as the competition looks to be stronger than ever. From the Chinese juggernauts to the South American surprises, nothing is certain in Kyiv.
