Will Vitality dominate at the IEM Global Challenge 2020?

The end of the year is near with Vitality still topping the HLTV World Rankings. Will they be able to end the year on a high at the IEM Global Challenge 2020? Will a rising Astralis be the force to stop them? Or will another team rise up?

Unconventional but succesful

There is only one more weekend left before the year comes to a close, just in time for Christmas and the players to get their well deserved break. The biggest end-of-year tournament is the IEM Global Challenge 2020 with a prize pool of $500.000 and the top five of the world attending. It comes to no surprise that the big favourite is Vitality. With them having an incredible year and performing really well with their unconventional six man roster, they are in prime position to close things out with a nice end of year bonus.

Unlikely challenger?

Vitality has won the BLAST Premier Fall 2020 Finals the weekend before the IEM Global Challenge, making them quite likely to carry over momentum. Especially if you look at how well they performed against some of the contenders. We’ve highlighted before that a rising Astralis might be a challenger this weekend, yet we have to note that they lost quite horrendously against Vitality at BLAST. Yes, it was a 2-1 in maps, yet that might look a bit too positive for Astralis as they lost Vertigo with 4-16 and Inferno with 5-16, winning Dust2 in between those maps with 16-14.

It seems clear cut that Vitality should be the best team at the end of the year, but will they be able to continue their strong performance?
