Zeta and Chinese teams withdraw from VCT – Japan and South Korea gain extra spots

The Last Chance Qualifiers meant to fill out VALORANT Champions saw some massive changes. Zeta Division, who represented Japan as the first seed in Masters Berlin, were one of the teams who dropped out the LCQ. In their statement, Zeta stated the results from Masters Berlin were “more severe than we expected” and that they would take this time to rebuild for the future.

Along with Zeta, several other Chinese teams meant to make their debut in the LCQ also dropped out. VALORANT has yet to see a full release in China and these teams will wait until the next competitive year to make an appearance. There was also a concern over ping issues playing in the LCQ on Japanese and Korean servers. This sudden change resulted in several slots for Champions opening up.

In the absence of these teams, Japan and South Korea have gained extra seeds. As it stands the LCQ will see three seeds from SEA, Japan, and South Korea but only one team from South Asia. Unfortunately, this means will won’t be seeing any teams from the promising Indian region that has seen some major development.

Damwon Kia automatically qualified for the LCQ with this change. Fans however are up in arms over these changes, as it seems to come at the detriment of South Asia. While South Korea and Japan certainly benefited, it did seem to come at the expense of SA. The fate of Zeta and the other teams is up in the air, but we will see who makes the cut in the LCQ.
